Local Accommodation

Gurston Down is within the administrative area of Broad Chalke and Bowerchalke; two adjacent villages nestling alongside the river Ebble, within the attractive Chalke Valley located within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

The Gurston Down Hillclimb Committee is pleased to donate this page to all Organisations within the villages of Broad Chalke and Bowerchalke.

The Queens Head Inn

The Queen’s Head is a traditional country inn on the crossroads at the centre of Broad Chalke, less than 5 minutes from Gurston Hill Climb. We are now an independently owned free house and offer a genuine welcome and a cosy atmosphere in which to enjoy great local ales and ciders, a range of chilled beers and delicious, freshly homemade food. We have a well-stocked bar with a leather sofa and fireside chairs to relax in around the roaring wood-burning stove in the winter. In the summer you can also choose to eat in our pretty courtyard garden or in our new summer beer garden in the meadow across the road. There are a number of tables to sit and eat at within the bar and a comfortable restaurant to retire to for a more formal meal. We specialise in traditional British dishes with a creative twist using fresh, locally produced, top-quality, seasonal ingredients. You can see our current menus and today’s specials on our Facebook page: The Queen’s Head Broad Chalke, our Instagram: @thequeensheadinnbroadchalke or our website: https://queensheadbroadchalke.co.uk. We have a well-curated wine list and some non-alcoholic bottled beers and spirits for drivers.

We have 4 recently refurbished ensuite guest rooms in a separate accommodation building to the rear of the pub, alongside our courtyard garden, with independent access so you can come and go as you please. You can see pictures of these and the seasonal prices on our website. These rooms have a mixture of king-size and single beds, large modern flat screen TVs, free WiFi and tea and coffee making facilities.

We are happy to have well behaved children in the bar, restaurant and beer gardens. We however ask you to remember that we are an adult environment. There is a fire-pit in the garden, an open fire in the pub and cars to the front and back of the building -your children need to be supervised at all times. Clean, friendly and well-behaved dogs -on leads only- are very welcome in the gardens and bar but not in the restaurant. They will need to be with you at all times. If you are intending to have a meal with your dog at your feet please ask to book a table in the bar to do so. Rooms 2 and 4 are our only dog-friendly rooms. You will need to book your dog (one) in at the time of making your reservation and there will be a £10 surcharge for the normal level of extra cleaning. Do help yourself to dog treats at the bar!

Our address is The Queen’s Head Inn, 1 North Street, Broad Chalke, SP5 5EN. We are at the village crossroads on the main valley road. Just turn left out of Gurston Hill Climb and follow the road. You will get to the entrance to our car park on the left shortly before arriving at the pub so keep a watch for it and follow the signs.

We look forward to seeing you.
