Your runs
First Practice Run
In the documentation there is a “batch number” that you have been assigned to. The paddock PA and the window of the marshals cabin will indicate a batch number that is being called. When this occurs please ensure that you are in your car and ready to move to the assembly area. Please be courteous to your fellow drivers and be ready before your paddock marshall has asked you to drive to the assembly area – marshalls are not obliged to wait for drivers who are not ready. Being ready means in your car, strapped in, gloves and helmet on, engine running, or immediately able to start and move off.
Once asked to move to the assembly area, follow the directions of the marshalls to move to a pre-startline assembly area.
In the assembly area on your first run you will be asked to run your engine at three-quarters of your maximum RPM for a few seconds while a noise meter checks how loud your vehicle is. Once you have been given the all-clear you will be slowly directed to move forward. the assembly marshall will check your helmet, HANS, harness are fastened and doors are closed and any other checks the scrutineers and clerk of the course have requested.
you will be given the ok to move closer to the start line. Queue quietly waiting for your turn.
When it is your turn, ensure that you give the car ahead a good amount of space. When they have successfully departed pull forward, the startline light will be red, stop short of the start-line. On approach you are free to line yourself up on the track how you please. Once stopped, please ensure that you release the brakes. The start-line marshalls will manouver the car to the line, using your timing strut to line you up. Gurston Down is unusual that the startline is slightly downhill, as such the marshalls will hold your car so as your car doesn’t move forward until the clutch bites. Stay stationary until the startlight turns green. Once green you may pull away at your leisure to commence your run. Proceed to run the hill at your pace. If all four wheels go off-track it will be noted as a failed run. The finish line is marked by checkerboard signs beside the track. Once you have passed the finish and straightened up, slow up and come down to a walking pace. You will approach the top paddock; obey the signals of the marshalls to park your car. Some cars may go into different lanes. You will wait in the top-paddock until the end of the batch before being directed to drive safely back, your time maybe displayed on a very large screen in the top paddock. When approaching the startline on your return, turn left into the slip-road on the left. If you need to go straight on as you are in the top paddock, please signal clearly to the startline marshalls. Please carefully, courteously and patiently park your car in the paddock.
You can get your results and those of your fellow class competitors from our timing partner website and from the printers situated in the cabin in the top paddock.
Following runs
second practice, first and second timed runs will operate the same way with the exception that there will not be a repeat of the sound check.
Top Ten/Twelve Run off
You will be notified by a marshall if you are in the top-ten runoff. We arrange the batches to give the fastest cars a little time to cool before this run when possible,
Award Giving
Once all runs have completed awards are given out at the refreshment/bar area of “Harratts” usually outside the front door on the benches
